The first season of the partnership between the New York Jets and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not exactly go the way either party hoped or expected as Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the team’s first game of the season. But it sounds like he still impressed team owner Woody Johnson, even if it wasn’t on the field.
During an interview on Thursday night at the NFL Honors awards show in Las Vegas, New York Jets team owner Woody Johnson opened up a bit about Aaron Rodgers. The team has been criticized for just how much influence Rodgers has had on the offense, even when he wasn’t playing, but Johnson had a message to Rodgers about that, making it clear that he was far more impressed than frustrated with Rodgers’ input.
“He has strong opinions on the way the team is built, and we are digesting exactly how to interpret that,” Johnson said. “You need an interpreter a little bit there, but I couldn’t be more impressed.”
Obviously, Rodgers is expected to be back in the lineup next season after fully recovering from his Achilles injury. We’ll have to see how the offense looks with Rodgers running it.
