It is now being reported that San Francisco 49ers Bruce Miller was arrested on suspicion of spousal battery in Santa Clara on Thursday.
If convicted, Miller could receive up to a year in a county jail and a $2,000 fine.
Somehow, the 49ers offseason keeps on getting worse and worse.
The team released this statement on Monday:
“The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Bruce Miller. We were disappointed to learn of these reports and will do our due diligence in collecting all relevant information.”
As for potential penalties from the league, the NFL’s new domestic violence policy could come into play here:
The NFL has increased dramatically its approach to allegations of domestic violence, via a new personal-conduct policy. Miller ultimately could be placed on the Commissioner-Exempt list pending resolution of the case, with a potential suspension coming after the prosecution ends.
According to the San Jose Mercury, Miller is the 11th 49ers player who has been arrested since 2012. That unsurprisingly places the 49ers among “the highest totals in the league” when it comes to player arrests.
Somewhere, 49ers owner Jed York is undoubtedly curled up in a corner muttering something about winning with class.
