The UNC men’s football team is coming off a 70-41 loss against East Carolina, a disastrous defeat that knocked them out of college football’s Top 25. Normally, that would be very bad news for a team’s psyche, but luckily the Tar Heels have Caleb Pressley.
Pressley, a former three-year backup quarterback at UNC, is using his senior season to serve as student manager for the football program. After losing his spot on the team’s active roster because he missed camp this past spring while studying abroad in Scotland, the team has found other ways to let Pressley contribute to the program. “Student manager” is a pretty vague title, so Caleb has taken the liberty of appointing himself as “Supervisor of Morale” for the Tar Heels.
“No one’s argued it. I think I’ve lived up to the title.”
In addition to maintaining positive vibes, Pressley’s duties also include being the team’s play signaler on the sidelines. He doesn’t need much help standing out, but in order to draw the attention of players on the field Caleb has taken to wearing the NFL jerseys of former UNC players such as Julius Peppers, Bruce Carter and Sylvester Williams.
If you watch the ESPN U interview with Pressley above, it doesn’t take too long to realize that he’s a pretty strange and interesting dude. He has a pretty unique sense of humor and a personality that makes him a perfect candidate to be a Supervisor of Morale.
“All I have to do is come in, signal plays, talk to my friends and dance around on the sidelines.”
Sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me.
