March Madness may be over but college basketball is staying in the headlines this week thanks to one player’s courage to become the first openly gay player in the college ranks. University of Massachusetts guard Derrick Coleman revealed to his teammates that he was gay a week ago today, and it has now become the subject of a great story put together by ESPN’s Kate Fagan.
You can check out the full story in the link above – it’s definitely worth a read – but it’s great to see that more and more athletes are feeling comfortable enough to come out, hopefully signaling a change in the hyper-masculine sports culture. I don’t know about you, but I just became a Derrick Gordon fan.
