Poor USC can’t seem to catch a break these days. After the firing of Lane Kiffin speculation immediately began swirling on who USC wanted to bring in. Two of the biggest names were Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and former NFL head coach Tony Dungy. Tony went public, stating that he had turned down the offer to coach at USC but it seems he was never actually contacted by USC but, rather, someone pretending to be with USC’s athletic department. Always a class act, Tony apologized via Twitter (and by phone, it seems):
@USC_Athletics I was not contacted by an official USC rep. Turns out it was someone acting on their own. I have apologized to Pat Haden.

Here’s Brett McMurphy’s Tweet that started it all:
USC says individuals falsely representing as "high-ranking member of USC" contacted Denver Broncos coaches & Tony Dungy about USC job
