There’s no way anyone in 1938 could have predicted how dramatically the landscape of the sport would change over the next 75 years and would have laughed hysterically at the notion of San Diego State joining the Big East (never happened but it almost happened) or billion-dollar television revenue pots. But do to hundreds of unforeseen factors and developments, college football conferences have seen major overhauls over the last eight decades, when this incredible map was created.
It was posted by the folks at Slate last November but is making the rounds again, and for good reason.
