And faith in humanity was restored.
Joshua Perry asked his teammates to take a couple seconds out of their day to record an encouraging message for Joshua Chambers, a four year old who is battling leukemia. The players answered the call.
Perry had first heard of young Joshua’s situation through his mother, who had learned of Chambers’ leukemia fight from a work colleague. Knowing that Joshua Chambers was a huge Buckeyes fan and knowing that players are in a unique position to inspire those who root for Ohio State University, Perry felt that reaching out to Joshua was the right thing to do:
“It’s one of those things where some of the guys who aren’t from Columbus don’t necessarily understand how just being a Buckeye and the small interactions you make with people can actually make their day when they’re going through something tough,” Perry said. “If somebody says, ‘Hey, there’s somebody who wants to meet you…they’re going through a rough time…if they want me to wear their wristband and tell their story and get to know them a little bit, it’s the least I can do.”
Aside from Perry, the other Buckeyes who have sent messages include Devan Bogard, Craig Fada, Curtis Grant, Doran Grant, Darron Lee and Raekwon McMillan. Hats off to all of them.
