University pride and bias is unique and oftentimes produces a fantastic pile of uneducated, hilarious and completely unjustified inedible swill from fans. For these reasons and others, universities are able to build multi-million, if not billion, dollar endowments from donor gifts and other support. And as a result, the charitable superfans of schools across the country begin a rampage of vicious defense for their institution, both on and off-the-field.
Following Wisconsin’s loss to LSU last weekend, you know that hundreds of Badger alums, current students and staff, or other academic professionals were bitterly ratting off comments implying that the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a far better institution than Louisiana State University.
Does it make the season-opening loss sting any less? No, but they’re right. According to the National University Rankings by the U.S. News and World Report, Wisconsin ranks significantly higher than LSU.
