No. 1: Kansas State
Territorial K-State fans are not going to be pleased with this No. 1 spot but the 2013 loss to NDSU is too fresh to forget. Bill Snyder’s No. 20 Wildcats followed an unexpected BCS bowl appearance in 2012 with a frustrating 7-5 campaign last season. A trip to Ames normally wouldn’t be an issue, except when it comes 12 days before the mighty Auburn Tigers roll into Manhattan, thus creating a trap game Week 2.
A 1-2 start would be devastating with the long 9-game Big 12 schedule remaining. An 8 or 9-win season is extremely likely, but don’t dismiss opponents such as Texas Tech (October 4th), TCU (November 8th) or West Virginia (November 20th). Include an upset or two in the middle of conference play and Kansas State could find themselves watching The View come late December.
