Oklahoma Sooners’ quarterback Baker Mayfield had himself a day when his team faced the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Horseshoe. He had a fantastic completion percentage and he was throwing touchdowns all over the field. He topped it off with a flag plant in the middle of the block “o” after the Sooners whopped on the Buckeyes.
Now, apparently, he needs to watch his back when he makes it to the NFL.
Former Buckeye and NFL running back Beanie Wells spoke to TMZ about how Mayfield is going to be treated in the league. Wells didn’t mince words and said it may be a rough road ahead.
“There’s gonna be a bullseye on his back. If he goes to the National Football League and plays, any Buckeyes are gonna be after him,” said Wells. He would go on to say that the plant at midfield was “the ultimate disrespect” and “a slap in the fact.”
The comments are odd considering that football is a game of violence and he is obviously going to be tackled by a Buckeye or two while in the league. It isn’t as if we are going to see different types of violence against him on the field. These players are just going to play football.
While Mayfield may be a sore winner, the Buckeyes are being sore losers as well. College football is all about bragging rights. If you didn’t want him to disrespect your home turf, you should have won the darn game.
