You’d have to be an idiot to be a high school basketball player and trash talk Michael Jordan or you’d be O.J. Mayo. When Mayo was a promising high school phenom he attended a Michael Jordan summer camp in 2005 or 2006. While there, a young and arrogant Mayo made the mistake of sh*t-talking the GOAT, Michael Jordan. Despite Jordan being retired and in his early 40’s, this is a inadvisable thing to do. Mayo was the only high school player at the camp and Jordan decided to guard him to which Mayo took it as sort of an insult that he was the weak link. The two went at each other on both sides of the court and Mayo recounts the dream match-up:
Mike was jawing a little bit and really getting into me defensively. He was backing me down. He said, ‘You better scream for momma. Mom-ma, mom-ma! He hit the famous fadeaway on me. And then I said, ‘OK, OK, you got it going.’ He said, ‘Hey, young fella, let me tell you something. You may be the best high school player in the world, but I’m the greatest ever. Don’t you ever disrespect the great like that.’
It’s probably best not to piss off Michael Jordan on the basketball court, I don’t care if it’s 1984, years after he retired or when he’s 73-years-old and in a walker.
