Boston Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving is a free agent at the end of this season and according to NBC Sports Boston, he’s going to be highly coveted by the New York Knicks.
A. Sherrod Blakely spoke about New York’s desire to land Kyrie on the Bulls Talk podcast. Irving isn’t just the Knicks number one choice free agent, but their “second, third and fourth choice” as well.
I can tell you right now, the New York Knicks, he is their No. 1 target. I’ve spoken with people within that organization. They have made it absolutely crystal clear to me that, if they had their pick of guys that are going to be in the free agent market this summer, Kyrie would be their first, second, third and fourth choice.
It’s not surprising the Knicks are trying to land Kyrie after next season. The team’s point guard options are a mix of young(ish) reclamation projects (Emmanuel Mudiay, Trey Burke). There only good prospect at the guard position, Frank Ntilikina, has been moved off point. So, there’s plenty of need for an upgrade at the position.
The Knicks will have the necessary cap space to offer Kyrie a huge deal. The challenge won’t be money, it will be convincing him New York is the best place for him – honestly, it’s not a bad option.
