As the stigma around marijuana is going away bit by bit with many states now legalizing it recreationally, organizations still crack down on it. Sports organizations and leagues, in particular, are tough on the drug. It is a surprising stance, and many don’t share the same opinion as their employers.
Now retired former NBA star, Stephen Jackson, who played 14 seasons in the league, doesn’t like the ban. When talking to TMZ Sports, he let it be known that he smoked marijuana all throughout his career.
He said that playing high was never an option and it wasn’t anything that he had done. It was more of a comedown than anything.
“Nobody can play high, especially in the NBA — it’s a high-level of competition, and guys are great, so nobody can play high,” said Jackson to TMZ.
He let it be known time and time again in his conversation with TMZ that he doesn’t know how anyone could have played while under the influence.
“If anybody says they need to be high during the games they don’t know what the f–k they’re talking about,” said Jackson.
While the ban may be archaic in today’s climate, the fact that these questions are still asked is telling.
