The Milwaukee Bucks’ marketing department just continues to hit home runs, as their latest gimmick — which we really, really want to be legit — is pretty much the most ’90s thing ever. Here’s the gist: ten lucky winners will get to attend a meet and greet with Mr. Gangsta’s Paradise himself, Coolio. Three even luckier winners will get to meet Coolio and Glenn Robinson — the #1 overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft, and second-leading scorer in Bucks history — and watch a game with them in a suite. Here’s the kicker: all entries must be received by…wait for it…fax. That’s right, if you want to meet Coolio and the Big Dog, you must dust off an archaic piece of communication technology. It’s your only hope.
Or not?
As it turns out, the Bucks are doing a throwback Y2K Night promotion on February 22nd at BMO Harris Bradley Center, and Robinson will be on hand for meet and greets and a pre-game autograph session, along with a halftime performance by Coolio. However, the press release mentions you can buy VIP suite tickets and get a personal in-suite visit from Robinson, all of which sounds much more realistic than entering a contest via fax.
UPDATE: Much to my delight, it appears to be real. That’s the good news. The bad news: people really did a number on their fax machine.
