With the 2024 NBA Playoffs approaching, the New York Knicks are providing some clarity on an injury suffered by one of their star players.
According to the New York Post, the Knicks have officially diagnosed forward OG Anunoby with elbow tendinopathy, better known as tennis elbow. The Indiana product hasn’t played since New York’s win over the Sacramento Kings on March 16, with the team having listed his official injury as “elbow inflammation” before changing his designation on Monday.
The Knicks acquired Anunoby via a trade with the Toronto Raptors in December and the 26-year-old forward provided a sizable boost to New York’s defense during his first month with the team. In February, he underwent elbow surgery and missed 18 games before returning for a three-game stretch in mid-March.
As a result of his latest elbow injury, Anunoby has missed the Knicks’ past seven games, with this status for the remainder of the regular season — and the upcoming NBA Playoffs — now in question. Heading into Tuesday’s game against the Miami Heat, New York lays claim to a 44-30 record and currently sits in fourth place of the Eastern Conference.
Appearing in 17 games since being traded to the Knicks, the 6-foot-7 forward has averaged 14.5 points on .495 percent shooting, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks.
