19-year-old Luke Doncic might not be a household name yet, but he’s certainly about to be. The Real Madrid guard is considered to be one of the best – if not the best – prospect coming to the NBA next season.
So what’s his game like? According to Doncic, it looks a lot like Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons. In an excellent feature by Mina Kimes of ESPN, Doncic described how his versatile skillset keeps him positionless.
“I think we are, like, similar, you know?” he says. “He can play point guard, he can play forward. He can play a lot of stuff, like LeBron.”
That might sound cocky, but the 6’8″ Doncic can play multiple positions and do them well.
It is rare prospects of Doncic (or Simmons) skillsets comes along. While the two players aren’t identical in the way they play (Doncic can shoot but isn’t as great around the rim) both can do multiple things on the court that will defy any preconceptions about them.
This might be the first time you heard of Doncic and perhaps you think the Simmons comparison is outrageous. Honestly, it’s not. He’s that good.
