Michael Beasley wants to take a step forward in his once-rocky career.
In an excellent feature and career-retrospect on current New York Knick Michael Beasley, Bleacher Report’s Yaron Weitzman discussed how the forward wants to move on from his past – which includes a bevy of issues like checking into rehab in 2009 and multiple incidents involving marijuana, most recently in 2013.
“Everywhere I go, with teammates, on the phone with other teams, media, [my past] is all anybody wants to talk about,” Beasley adds. “You’re asking me when I’m going to grow up and mature, it’s like, ‘Bro, when are you going to mature?’ It’s been like five or six years since I’ve been involved with anything off the court.”
Beasley is right to want to move on, as he’s been trouble free for a few years. He rebounded back into the NBA with relative ease after a season in China and a brief stint in Houston, turning in an effective season with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2016-17, averaging 9.4 points per game and shooting 41 percent from the three.
The 28-year-old is now in New York and is keeping things in perspective.
“How have I grown up? I don’t know, Bro, it’s life,” he says. “I take care of my kids every day, I drop them off at school and pick them up whenever my wife is too tired. I keep my kids fed. I wash my own ass.”
Beasley is ready to start anew, so unless he gets in trouble again, shouldn’t we all just let him?
