The debate regarding whether LeBron James or Michael Jordan is the greatest player in NBA history has become one of the biggest talking points in all of sports. One current NBA player gave his take on the debate, but he made his choices for some pretty hilarious reasons.
This week, HoopsHype asked 100 players to name who they believe to be the best basketball player ever. As part of the survery, 49 picked Michael Jordan while 37 of the respondents sided with LeBron James. Kobe Bryant finished in third with nine votes, and five others (Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony) each received one vote.
But by far the funniest and perhaps the most honest response came from San Antonio Spurs guard Devonte Graham, who played for the Charlotte Hornets during the time when the team was owned by Jordan. He had no problem admitting that his opinion changed as soon as Jordan was not the one signing his checks.
“I played for the GOAT, Michael Jordan,” Graham told HoopsHype. “He paid me. When I played there, he was definitely the GOAT. Once I got traded, it became LeBron.”
That’s a very honest and very valid response.
