The Los Angeles Lakers have been open about their interest in 2024 NBA Draft prospect Bronny James, the son of current Lakers star LeBron James. And now, they have made their first step in potentially getting more familiar with their potential draft pick in the draft next month.
LeBron has made his intention to play with his son in the NBA very clear over the past few years, expressing that desire in several interviews and even calling Bronny the “player he wants to play with the most” out of any potential player in the league.
With that in mind, it sounds like the Lakers have no plans of denying LeBron this wish. According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers recently conducted an interview with Bronny during the 2024 NBA Draft Scouting Combine this week.
Bronny, who averaged just 4.8 points per game in his lone collegiate season at USC, isn’t your typical NBA Draft prospect. The production in college wasn’t there for him. But he has been able to show off his potential to NBA teams at the combine this week.
Sure, you can say that he largely received the combine invite because of his last name. But he has taken full advantage of the opportunity, rising up draft boards in the eyes of most draft experts.
ESPN NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony even raised Bronny up on his board, all the way to being the No. 54 ranked prospect, which is up significantly from where he previously had him.
Bronny has made himself a very real player that is worthy of being a draft pick. And it sure seems like it is incredibly likely that it will be the Lakers that take a chance on him.
