Grant Hill announced on NBA on TNT this evening that, after 19 seasons in the NBA, he’s going to retire from the league. The Duke University legend came into the league in 1994 with the Detroit Pistons. He spent 6 years in Detroit before doing stints in Orlando and Phoenix. His last season with the Clippers was marred by injuries.
When Hill came into the league, after winning 2 NCAA championships at Duke, people used to throw around terms like “The Next Michael Jordan.” Hill was the guy that MJ was supposed to pass the torch to at the end of his career – Hill was a dynamic player, well spoken and marketable. But injuries prevented him from ever truly getting over that hump to megastardom. But he had such a great stretch in the 90’s that he still might have done enough to get to the Hall of Fame.
Hill was a 7 time NBA All-star and averaged over 16 points a game in his career.
