Before we dive into the ending of Wednesday night’s game between the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks, we’d like to remind you of how scary-good the Western Conference is: if the playoffs started today, the Golden State Warriors, aka The Most Exciting Team In The NBA, would be the eighth seed. EIGHTH. The team they beat Wednesday night (Dallas) is 13-10 and stuck in the ninth spot. Of course, this is where we remind you that if both teams were in the Eastern Conference, they would currently be — based on records — the third and fourth seeds. In other words, life really isn’t fair in the NBA.
Anyway, we love the Mavs and the Dirk and Monta Show, but we’re here to talk about the Dubs. Let’s face it: the world would just be a better place with the Warriors in the playoffs. They’ve already played in at least four of the most exciting games of the season — two down-to-the-wire showdowns with Oklahoma City, an unfathomable comeback from a 27-point second half deficit to the Toronto Raptors, and their latest, a 95-93 stunner over the aforementioned Mavericks.
Last week, it was the entire team that came together to down the Raptors after an embarrassing first half. This week, it was the Stephen Curry Show, with a little Draymond Green sprinkled in. The Mavericks led 92-86 with 1:20 to play when Curry went and did Steph Curry things, converting a four-point play, followed by Green’s three that gave Golden State a one-point lead. With the game tied at 93-93, Curry went to work. And, well, you can probably guess what happened next.
The Warriors are treading water right now while their defensive ace, Andre Iguodala, is out. As such, it’s a team that should finish higher than where it’s currently seeded — health permitting, of course (yes, I know, there’s a long way to go…blah, blah, blah). But it won’t really matter what slot they earn in April, because any seven-game series they’re involved in will be Must-See TV.
