It’s only taken 12 years, but our long national nightmare of not having the Charlotte Hornets in our NBA lives is finally over. The former Charlotte Bobcats ditched their former name — which they’d had since entering the league in 2005 — during a Tuesday afternoon press conference, officially ushering in the ten billion-times cooler Hornets nickname. Of course, along with the name comes the snazzy purple and teal color scheme, which immediately takes me back to 1993 — the days of Kendall Gill, Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, and a guy who now holds the title of “Steph Curry’s father” (yes, we are that old).
While the team is set to unveil its new uniforms on June 19th, signage at Time Warner Cable Arena is already being switched out.
