Dwyane Wade established himself as one of the most dominant, successful and accomplished NBA stars of his generation, winning three NBA titles with the Miami Heat and making the league’s All-Star game 13 different times. And now, he’s using his platform to support transgender youth. More specifically, he’s supporting his transgender daughter.
This month, Dwyane Wade and his transgender daughter Zaya announced that they were partnering to create a new digital platform called Translatable to support LGBTQ youth and their families. And as the two of them roll out the new platform, Wade made it very clear just how proud he is of his daughter.
“For our family we were blessed to have a family of supporters and knowledgeable experts who could swiftly arm us with the tools we needed to support Zaya in her journey,” Wade said in a video on the website
“I’m so very proud of the daughter I’ve had the opportunity to raise,” Wade said of his relationship with Zaya.
The website is not much yet, but it promises to be “a safe space for LGBTQIA+ youth to express themselves and is a resource hub for their parents, families, and support systems” and is partnered with the Human Rights Campaign and Trevor Project.
