While Johnny Manziel’s first career start was decidedly a disaster, Cleveland’s savior LeBron James hasn’t lost faith in the Johnny Football era.
The Browns got flattened by the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday 30-0 but even that score doesn’t really do justice to how ineffective Manziel was in his pro debut. The Browns only managed 107 yards of offense on 38 total plays. Cleveland’s only red zone trip of the game ended in a horrible interception by Manziel.
LeBron James watched Manziel’s dismal performance against the Bengals from a suite and he put on his football analyst hat after reporters asked him what he thought about Manziel’s much-hyped start. LeBron unsurprisingly preached patience. After all, it’s only been one game.
“I’m not disappointed. I’m a friend that supports, and it’s only one game.”
…
“I know more than anybody how the game goes and how the game works, so he’s worked very hard and you can’t put all that pressure or everything that happened on just one game. That’s what being a professional’s all about, you’re going to have mistakes, and how you come back from them is a measure of who you are.”
LeBron may be onto something when he says that it’s how you come back from mistakes that matter. After all, Manziel has nowhere to go but up from here. (Right?)
