Chris Smith, aka “maybe the worst player in the history of the [NBA] summer league”, is currently a member of the New York Knicks — a decision based solely on the fact he is the younger brother of J.R. Smith. Clearly, loyalty runs deep in the Knicks organization when it comes to charity cases, but Chris’ loyalty is to his brother, who he literally wears on his back.
Chris got inked up in celebration of J.R.’s 28th birthday, but if this is what it took to land a roster spot on the Knicks, then it’s totally worth it. That is, for Chris, who is making the league minimum $491,000. Thanks to tax implications, that $491,000 is costing the Knicks $2.1 million for someone who is barely even a D-League level talent.
