NBA legend Charles Barkley has made a name for himself off the court almost as much as on it. No matter the issue, you will always know where the Chuckster stands.
Speaking on CNBC show Closing Bell, Barkley delved into the 2024 presidential race, exploring Democratic president Joe Biden to step aside at 81 years old.
“I have nothing but admiration and respect for President Biden. But it’s time for him to pass the torch to a younger generation,” Barkley said. “(Biden) is one of the greatest people I’ve been fortunate to be around in my life, but it’s time to pass the torch.”
Barkley went on to say that this wasn’t a recent idea, and it’s something he has felt for a while. He mentioned a “sadness” when discussing the upcoming election.
“(Biden) has been a great person; he’s a great man. This isn’t something I’m saying now. I’ve said it a year ago. It’s time for him to pass the torch,” said Barkley.
Don’t expect Barkley to cast a Republican ballot, though.
Despite his concerns about Biden and the Democratic Party, it would appear that voting for Biden’s longtime rival Donald Trump is out of the question.
“I would never vote for someone who has that mentality,” he said.
