As the 2024 NBA Draft approaches, there is no prospect who has received more attention than Bronny James.
But despite being projected by most to be a likely late-second-round pick, LeBron James’ oldest son is being selective about who he works out with.
According The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the younger James will only workout for a “few” teams ahead of next months draft. While it’s unclear how many teams total he will workout for, Charania singled out the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns as two of the teams that will get an in-person look at the 19-year-old guard.
“Phoenix has the No. 22 pick and James is among several players in consideration,” Charania wrote. “James has over 10 workout invitations but is expected to only visit a few teams, including the Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.”
It’s unclear why James wouldn’t be willing to workout for more teams — although it’s possible he has been given assurances he won’t make it past a certain pick. It’s also notable that one of the teams he is willing to workout for is unsurprisingly his father’s team, the Lakers, which lay claim to the No. 17 and No. 55 picks in next month’s draft.
Originally, many had projected the Lakers to use their second-round pick on the younger James. But the news that the Suns are considering taking him at No. 22 could throw a wrench into those plans and force Los Angeles to give the younger James an earlier look if they want to make LeBron and Bronny the NBA’s first father-son duo.
