In news that will only add to the legend of the Trail Blazers injury curse former all-star Brandon Roy, who retired for medical reasons just last season, announced via Will Conroy’s Twitter account that he is planning to return to the NBA next season.

Conroy and Roy are both from the Seattle area and are apparently working out together while neither is playing for an NBA team. It’s not clear why but Roy decided to answer questions about his career via Conroy’s Twitter account (@chillconroy):

Me and broy are together right now… We will hoop and then he will answer all of your questions…

In case anyone doubted him Conroy added a pic of the two hanging together. Roy then answered questions about his intent to play again in a string of tweets:

Lord willing, I will play again soon. Yes, I’m preparing for a comeback. I’m training daily. I’m preparing for a return next year. I appreciate the love. Hopefully I’ll be back on the floor soon. Health is good.

Because the Blazers used the amnesty provision of the NBA’s latest collective bargaining agreement to move Roy’s salary off the books (a key reason they have roughly $20 million to spend this off-season) Roy would not be eligible to rejoin the Blazers until at least the 2014 season.  Roy expressed love for Portland but not a willingness to keep his career on hold.

I’m looking to return sooner. Thanks for your support. I’m fortunate to have played for such a great fan base. No matter where I play, Portland will always have a special place in my heart.

If Roy plays, how well he plays, and where he plays will go a long way to determining what place he holds in Blazer fans hearts. If Rip City is forced to watch Roy return in Lakers purple there could be a riot at the Rose Garden.
