A lot of people have been waiting a very long time to see Andrew Wiggins put on an NBA jersey and compete against the the big boys. Those people finally got their chance last night when the Timberwolves opened the preseason against the Indiana Pacers.
The highly-touted rookie guard/forward from Canada that spent one season with the Kansas Jayhawks made his preseason debut and despite an unsatisfactory shooting percentage, Wiggins dazzled in 32 minutes of play. He shot 4-of-11 from the floor but nailed both three-pointers, a major talking point for Flip Saunders’ team this season, and filled the remainder of the box score with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocks while committing zero turnovers.
Saunders is fully aware of the special talent that he has in Wiggins, speaking to the Minneapolis Star Tribune about his rookie:
You could see today when you watch him, he’s always going to get two or three ‘aahs’ a game. You can see he’s not just an athlete. He’s skilled. He can get his shot when he wants.
While he still has a long way to go in proving his worth as the No. 1 pick, Andrew Wiggins certainly started things off on the right foot for a beleaguered and desperate franchise.
