Allen Iverson is apologizing for being a no show at BIG3 game this weekend.
A.I. was supposed to be in Dallas on Sunday as a player-coach but instead was caught gambling in a Chicago casino until 3 a.m. in the morning. Clearly, Iverson’s commitment to the new basketball league isn’t that big.
Iverson issued a statement on missing the game, apologizing directly to league co-founder Ice Cube. He said he hoped to make up missing the game in the future.
“First and foremost, I apologize to Ice Cube & my BIG3 family, my fans and everyone disappointed by my absence in Dallas this past weekend.”
“I have spoken with Ice Cube directly regarding the details of my absence. I will do my best to make up for this moving forward on the Big 3 tour.”
It’s bad for the league that the most prominent former player suiting up didn’t show up to a game, opting instead to spend his night gambling in an entirely different city. It hurts the league’s image and credibility.
Iverson’s apology helps, but it’s going to be tough for the BIG3 to regain what little influence it had. If Iverson can skip it, it sets a pretty bad precedent going forward.
