Last month, the Nevada State Athletic Commission handed down a five-year suspension to 32-year-old UFC fighter Nick Diaz, a decision that would more or less end the athlete’s career.
The suspension seemed particularly harsh because it was for a failed marijuana drug test. A petition was started to try and get Diaz reinstated by the NSAC and it recently received a rather high-profile endorsement from none other than Cher.

Cher has not been the only musician to come to Diaz’s side in light of the NSAC’s suspension. Wiz Khalifa also voiced his support for Diaz in a brief clip that Nick highlighted on his own Twitter feed on Friday.
As of this writing, Diaz’s White House petition currently has about 67,000 signatures. The petition hopes to garner 100,000 signatures by October 16th. Having Cher share the petition with her 2.85 million followers certainly can’t hurt.
