The New York Yankees have been excellent thus far this season, sporting the league’s best record. And it looks like they will be getting even more help quite soon in reigning CY Young winner Gerrit Cole, who looked as dominant as ever in a recent Triple-A rehab start.
Cole hasn’t pitched yet this MLB season after being diagnosed with elbow nerve inflammation before the start of the season.
He has been ramping up with rehab starts in the minor league recently as he looks to make his debut this MLB season. And his most recent start looked like the vintage Gerrit Cole that Yankees fans are quite accustomed to.
Cole started on Friday for Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre, striking out ten batters in 4 1/3 innings of work, allowing only one unearned run in the process.
This continues what has been a string of very impressive rehab starts for the six-time All-Star. In three minor league starts as of late, Cole has struck out 19 batters and walked none in 12⅓ innings.
Those kinds of numbers very well look like vintage Gerrit Cole. And adding a vintage Gerrit Cole to a Yankees pitching staff that currently sports the best ERA in all of baseball without him is obviously going to be quite dangerous for the rest of the MLB.
The Yankees are already amongst the favorites to potentially reach the World Series given their hot start to the year. And if Cole can come back and pitch like he has over the course of his career, the Yankees may just accomplish that goal.
