Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria fell ill before his team’s match against the Minnesota Twins on Monday, resulting in the 56-year-old getting transported to the hospital.
The Associated Press reports Renteria is going to be fine, as test results came back fine and he’s in no immediate danger. In his absence, former White Sox and current third base coach Joe McEwing will handle managerial duties.
Surely with Renteria on their mind, Chicago beat the Twins 8-5 on Monday night. Lucas Giolito threw six innings, allowing three runs while striking out six. Meanwhile, Matt Davidson went deep and had three RBI. The win put the rebuilding White Sox at 44-77 on the season.
Hopefully, Renteria’s time away with the team isn’t too long and he gets behind the bench soon in full health.
