One of the greatest things about Vin Scully (and there are A LOT of great things about Vin Scully) is that he has the untouchable ability to tell side stories while not missing a thing happening in the baseball game.
The legendary broadcaster showcased that ability once again last night during the Dodgers-Cardinals game when he told a story about St. Louis manager Mike Matheny and his first memories of college. More specifically, a bird shit on Matheny’s head and somehow he knew college was the right place for him.
The story obviously has a lot more charm when Vin tells it so you should probably just click play above. It’s probably worth it just to hear Scully conclude with “…and that’s the story of Mike Matheny and the bird poop.”
I love you, Vin.
