On Wednesday night, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani hit his first home run as a member of the Dodgers. It was an important milestone and a moment of celebration for him and the fans, but it ultimately led to a situation where Ohtani appeared caught in a lie.
The home run ball was caught by Ambar Roman, who ultimately traded it back to the Los Angeles Dodgers in return for two signed hats, a signed bat, and a ball after she told The Athletic that she was pressured by Dodgers security and team officials.
Roman even claims that the Dodgers officials refused to authenticate the baseball if she decided to take it home as a rather harsh negotiation tactic.
To make matters worse, Roman said that she never met or talked to Shohei Ohtani throughout the entire process. However, Shohei Ohtani himself claimed something different.
“I was able to talk to the fan, and was able to get it back,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton, according to The Athletic. “Obviously it’s a very special ball, a lot of feelings toward it, I’m very grateful that it’s back.”
Obviously, based on Roman’s account of the events, it seems that Ohtani is lying about talking to the fan regarding the ball.
The Dodgers declined to offer any comment on Roman’s account of the events or clarify the comments from Ohtani.
