I’m pretty sure everyone who has owned a pet before has tried sampling their pet food at least once, just to see how it tastes. As a dog owner my entire life, I’ve given a nibble to one or two brands of doggy treats just to make sure I wasn’t missing out on anything great. (I wasn’t.)
With that being said, it’s not all that bizarre that Ryne Sandberg recently stated that the strangest thing he’s ever eaten is cat food. What is bizarre, however, is that the Phillies manager enjoyed that cat food so much that he regularly ate it as “a little snack” for about a year.
He revealed that little fun weird fact while doing an interview on a Philadelphia radio station recently:
“I did that as a youngster, maybe four or five-years-old, maybe six-years-old. I don’t know. I guess I was hungry. I still remember the crunchiness of it was the biggest thing. This wasn’t a one time thing either. This went on for about a year as a little snack,” he confessed.
I think my favorite part of that quote is “I don’t know. I guess I was hungry.” That might be a viable excuse for a one time thing, but eating cat food for a year? That’s not hunger, that’s you being a weird ass dude who likes to eat cat food. Nice try.
I’m not a Phillies fan, but if I were I would have some serious reservations about letting a guy who willingly used to devour Fancy Feast fill out a lineup card for my team.
