The Los Angeles Dodgers hired a new general manager in former Billy Beane assistant Farhan Zaidi to replace the reassigned Ned Colletti. The moneyball believer and economist comes without a lick of baseball playing experience but is widely considered one of the brightest mathematical minds in the game. As people continue to ferociously debate the existence of moneyball and how various analytical approaches can affect the game of the baseball, one former Dodgers player thinks it’s a big joke.
Ryan Theriot, who spent five-plus fairly successful seasons with the Chicago Cubs before finishing his career as a utilityman for the Dodgers, Cardinals and Giants, offered his opinion of Farhan Zaidi on Twitter:
Wow Dodgers! Nice hire for the GM job. Hahahahahaha…….Good luck with that! #moneyballdoesntwork

While former players and coaches oftentimes offer powerful opinions on the happenings of their former teams, rarely do we get such an energetically critical shot that Theriot provided us on Wednesday.
Unfortunately for Theriot, Brandon McCarthy quickly shut down his opinion with a pretty important reminder:
@rtheriot7 your two world series rings were brought to you by GMs who didn't play.
