Ever since the Los Angeles Dodgers announced they would be honoring the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a charitable drag group that dresses like nuns, during its annual “Pride Night” celebration, conservatives have been out in full force to deride it.

Senator Marco Rubio, who once ran for President, initially kicked up the drama and now another Florida politician running for President has gotten involved.

While some Catholics and others showed up at Dodgers Stadium to protest the Pride Night festivities, the event went well and plenty of people attended to make it a big success.

Don’t tell that to Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who tweeted out photos from the day that makes it seem as though the protests overwhelmed the game and few people attended.

“Good on the thousands who showed up at Dodger Stadium to protest this anti-Catholic hate group,” he tweeted. “The virtually empty stadium for the game itself was a powerful image – Americans are fed up with the nonsense and are fighting back.”

DeSantis’s tweet received some Community Notes updates on Twitter that clarified his comments, which were either knowingly wrong or made up.

According to the notes, the photo of the empty stadium was taken an hour before the opening pitch, and attendance for the game was reported at 49,074. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were presented with their Community Award an hour before the first ball was thrown, which meant there were never going to be many people in the stands.

Plenty of people called out the hypocrisy of conservatives like DeSantis and matched it with the reality of the situation.
