Just hours after reports that the Cubs have informed current manager Rick Renteria that they are speaking with former Rays skipper Joe Maddon, it appears Maddon will be headed to Wrigley after all. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweeted that the organization will name him their new manager very soon:

The move has been speculated for quite some time, including well before Maddon opted out of his contract in Tampa last week and comes as little surprise. The only current opening in baseball was with the Minnesota Twins but sources confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press that they never contacted him and appear set to hire Paul Molitor, Doug Mientkiewicz or Torey Luvollo.
While the reports of his hire will continue to circulate, you won’t see an announcement until the conclusion of World Series Game 7 tonight, as MLB has a policy not to make personnel announcements during the World Series.
