The competitive nature of one of the American League East’s hottest rivalries extended beyond the playing field on Monday night, as the Red Sox and Rays continued to talk trash on Twitter after the final out.
Following the Rays 2-1 win against the Sox, a win that helped them overtake the Sox and secure a half-game lead in the AL East, the Rays official Twitter account threw a nice little jab at Red Sox Nation:
Dear @RedSox scoreboard operator – your standings are wrong. Yours truly, @RaysBaseball.
— Tampa Bay Rays (@RaysBaseball) July 30, 2013
Not one to go down without a fight, the Red Sox fired back…and went right for the killshot:
Don’t worry @raysbaseball we look forward to seeing you in Tampa in September for our home games at the Trop.
— Boston Red Sox (@RedSox) July 30, 2013
Ouch. It’s pretty embarrassing to have another team basically claim your home ballpark as their own, and that’s just what the Red Sox did. To be fair, Sox fans pretty much always outnumber Rays fans in Tampa.
Chalk one up for the BoSox in this war of tweets. I’m sure it won’t be the last we hear from these two.
