The Pittsburgh Pirates and Make-A-Wish teamed up to make 12-year old Matthew Beichner’s dream come true this week when they signed Beichner, who is currently battling brain cancer, to a one-day contract on Tuesday. Beichner was the subject of his own press conference, had a locker waiting for him inside the Pirates clubhouse, and got to meet, have lunch and play catch with his favorite player, Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen.
Then, to cap it all off, Beichner was invited attend batting practice and throw out the first pitch before the Pirates took on the Dodgers at PNC Park. Well done by the team and the Make-A-Wish foundation.
