Following Bryce Harper’s monstrous game-tying shot in the seventh inning, the Washington Nationals had a super sloppy bottom half of the inning. The Giants loaded the bases before Nats reliever Aaron Barrett threw a wild pitch that advanced all runners and plated the go-ahead run for San Fran.
Then, after deciding to intentionally walk Pablo Sandoval to reload the bases, Barrett sailed the very next pitch to the backstop. Buster Posey attempted to score for a second straight run off a wild pitch, but ended up being gunned out by Washington catcher Wilson Ramos.
The Giants tried to argue that Barrett, who applied the tag at home, blocked the plate on the play, but a review confirmed that Posey was out. The Nationals managed to escape the inning without allowing another run. Pretty damn lucky, I’d say.
