Los Angeles Angels Mike Trout is undeniably one of the most talented baseball players in the history of the game when he is healthy. Unfortunately, his career has been marred by injuries over the past few years, and he was hit with another serious setback this week, causing him great frustration.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Angels announced that Mike Trout had suffered a meniscus tear that would require surgery, sidelining him for at least a month. And he’s quite clearly frustrated by it.
“It’s just frustrating,” Trout said, getting choked up and emotional about the news. “But we’ll get through it.”
It’s another setback for the three-time MVP that follows a pattern. Trout has not played more than 140 games since 2016, and that includes missing nearly half the season after fracturing a bone in his hand in early July. He returned for just one game in August before spending the remainder of the season on the injured list.
It’s a story that’s become all too familiar for Trout over the years.
“You play the game hard,” Trout said, “and [stuff] happens.”
While no specific timetable has been given for his return, the injury is expected to keep him out for at least a month, likely longer.
