Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen after heart surgery: “Guys, I’m fine”

Kenley Jansen is assuring those worried about him that he’s doing A-OK after having heart surgery on Monday.

Jansen posted a video from his hospital bed, saying “guys, I’m fine,” and that his “anesthesia is finally out of my system. I’m doing good. Enjoying the Christmas spirit. We’ll see you guys soon in 2019, stronger than ever.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher was diagnosed with a condition that made his heartbeat unpredictable – especially in higher altitudes. Jensen underwent an “ablation procedure” which corrected the issue. It’s the second time the 31-year-old had surgery on his heart, as he underwent a minor procedure in 2012 to fix electrical signals in his left atrium.

Weirdly enough, I’ve undergone a very similar procedure as Jensen. My ablation procedure involved wires stimulating my heart to determine how it would react. During my surgery, my heart went to nearly 200 beats per minute, before I had to be shocked on the table. Now, I live with a defibrillator. It was scary stuff.

I totally sympathize with Jensen and am thrilled to see him recovering with no issues. Hopefully, this is the last time he has to go under the knife, and his baseball career doesn’t get interrupted by heart issues again.
