Some Boston Red Sox fans were irate when Jon Lester, who Boston traded to the Oakland A’s last season, refused to re-sign with the team for a $20 million discount.
Instead of taking the Red Sox reported six-year, $135 million discount, Lester signed with the Chicago Cubs for six years and $155 million.
Lester then tweeted that out to Red Sox Nation in order to acknowledge that he understood their disappointment but that Boston would always remain a dear place to him.
To Red Sox Nation, I understand the disappointment. Boston will always have a big place in my heart and we'll always consider y'all family!

Of course, some Twitter users couldn’t help but vent their misguided frustration towards Lester. However, instead of ignoring them (like nearly everyone else would) Lester took the time to respond individually to many of those that expressed their displeasure in polite (and not so polite) ways. Like his initial Tweet to Red Sox fans, Lester was extremely classy in his responses.
Check out some of them below.
