Jon Lester spent the first 8-plus seasons of his big league career with the Boston Red Sox, winning 110 ballgames, throwing a no-hitter and helping bring two World Series titles to the city.
As expected, he departed the franchise via trade on Thursday, abruptly heading across the country to Oakland but not without sending a very classy goodbye message to his former home. Lester took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe on Sunday to thank the team, fans and city.
