This is the second time a pitcher in the MLB has taken a line drive off the head in the past week, and it never gets any less scary. Tonight during the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs night game, Astros pitcher Mickey Storey took a Dave Sappelt comebacker directly off of his head, forcing him to leave the game in eighth inning. Last week A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy has a similar incident, and is still feeling the after effects (to put it lightly). He needed surgery to fix an epidural hemorrhage, skull fracture and brain bruise.
Luckily for Storey, it appears that Sappelt’s liner hit the pitcher’s right shoulder before hitting him on the right side of his neck/head. Storey hit the ground for several minutes before walking into the Astros dugout mostly on his own accord.
