In a not so surprising development, Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles has deleted his Twitter account. The leading home run hitter in the majors has been the subject of increasing steroid speculation and it seems as though that may have something to do with it, although Davis claims it just was not his thing in a quote from the Baltimore Sun:
There was no correlation with any time of the year or anything like that. I tried it for about a year and it just wasn’t something I was into. For every nine positive things, you get one negative thing. I’ve had a great following and a lot of support on Twitter. But it’s just not something I cared to indulge in anymore.
At the end of the day it’s no big deal, and might be better for a guy like Davis, who just wants to go out an play. One would almost wish that some other athletes would quit Twitter given their controversial comments, although that wouldn’t be any fun now would it?
