A few days ago, hitting coach Matt Lisle posted this really cool infographic that shows how batters are able to identify certain pitches within the blink of an eye.
Now, this probably won’t help you when you’re watching a game from the comfort of your own home (let alone in the stands) but it’s pretty interesting to see how each pitch’s different rotation gives the ball a different appearance as it travels towards the mound at speeds that are usually reserved for speeding cars.
Of course, it’s stuff like this that also has me convinced that baseball players must have super-human eyesight because being able to see those seams AND swing a bat before the ball crosses the plate seems like it would take super-human senses.
