Cubs breakout star Anthony Rizzo hit two home runs on Tuesday night against the Padres, giving him an NL-leading 25 bombs for the season. While the home runs helped the Cubbies win 6-nil and bumped them one game closer to being only 15 games under .500, Rizzo’s power display meant more than anyone realized.
Rizzo recently met 22-year-old Mike Kasallis, a 22-year-old Cubs fan who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Kasallis requested the first baseman to launch a home run for him. Rizzo, a survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, agreed to the fan’s wish and told him to watch the game after he hit one, when he’d deliver a gesture at home plate.
But instead of hitting just one, Rizzo also recorded homer No. 25 on Tuesday night, kindly doubling the fan’s request:
